UUs march in the 2011 Pride Parade in Washington, DC

Every part of you is sacred, including your gender and sexuality. As UUs, we not only welcome LGBTQ+ people, we celebrate the full diversity of gender and sexuality as a spiritual gift. We build inclusive communities and work for justice and equity as a core part of who we are. All of who you are belongs. All of who you are is welcome.

Our Work in Action

  • Welcoming Congregations
Our congregations actively practice intentional LGBTQ+ welcoming ministry. Explore a Welcoming Congregation near you, or learn more about the Welcoming Congregation Program and how we continually deepen our commitment to welcome, inclusion, and justice.
  • UPLIFT: LGBTQ Ministries and Welcoming Congregations Blog and Newsletter
UPLIFT is the UUA’s LGBTQ Ministries platform for sharing LGBTQ+ voices in Unitarian Universalism and beyond. Published in the first full week of each month, it features a new blog, curated resources including small group curriculums and worship materials, spotlights current initiatives, and shares news of upcoming events. UPLIFT highlights programming, reflections, and content that help congregations deepen their practice of welcome, inclusion, and justice.
  • Woodlands: A Monthly Trans/Nonbinary Monthly Pastoral Care Space  The Woodlands offers a monthly virtual space for trans adults, youth, and children, along with their parents and caregivers. It provides a supportive, affirming environment where participants can connect with others, share experiences, and find community. Each session is designed to foster belonging, safety, and understanding, helping trans people and their families navigate challenges, celebrate identities, and build networks of support within a welcoming UU framework.

Partnership

Effective justice ministry depends on partnership. UU partners for LGBTQ justice work, beyond the Unitarian Universalist Association, include UU State Action Networks, Side with Love, and Transgender Religious Professional UUs Together (TRUUsT). UUs also form interfaith partnerships, such as with the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), Lambda Legal, the National LGBTQ Taskforce, and the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU).
