Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a place for my beliefs in Unitarian Universalism?
Unitarian Universalism is a non-creedal religion, which means that we welcome people with many different beliefs and from many different faith traditions. The Beliefs Within Our Faith section of UUA.org describes the relationships between Unitarian Universalism and other religious and philosophical traditions, including Atheism/Agnosticism, Christianity, and Paganism.

How do I find a Unitarian Universalist congregation near me? What if I'm looking for a congregation outside the United States?
The online congregation finder allows you to search the list of Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) member congregations to find information about the congregations located near you. Most UUA member congregations are located in the United States, but the congregation finder can also help you locate member congregations in Australia, Belgium, Canada, France, Mexico, New Zealand, and the Philippines. In Canada, some Unitarian Universalist congregations are members of the UUA, and others are members of the Canadian Unitarian Council.

There are many congregations outside of the United States which identify with the values and traditions of Unitarian Universalism, but are not UUA member congregations. You can find these congregations by visiting the International Council of Unitarian Universalists, or emailing the UUA Office of International Resources at international @ uua.org.

If there are no Unitarian Universalist congregations near you, you may enjoy participating in the Church of the Larger Fellowship, which serves and connects geographically-isolated Unitarian Universalists.

How do I become a Unitarian Universalist minister?
The process and requirements for becoming credentialed as a Unitarian Universalist minister are explained in the Ministerial Credentialing section. If you have questions about the process and requirements, please email the UUA's Ministerial Credentialing Office at mco @ uua.org.

How do I find a Unitarian Universalist minister to officiate a wedding, funeral, or other ceremony?
To find a minister to officiate a ceremony, please contact your district office or the congregations nearest you.

I've heard that the Unitarian Universalist Association supports full equality for bisexual, gay, lesbian and transgender (BGLT) people. Where can I find out more?
There's more information about our support for BGLT rights on our Bisexual, Gay, Lesbian, and Transgender Community page of UUA.org. To learn more about the history of UUA activism on BGLT issues, please visit our timeline. You may also direct questions to the UUA Office of BGLT Concerns.
