Background Information

Marriage Equality means nothing more or less than full and equal access to civil marriage rights for same-sex couples. We believe this access is a matter of faith; affirming the inherent worth and dignity of every person leads us to advocate equality for all people, including gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender individuals, couples, and families.

Marriage Equality 101—"What is "civil marriage"? Why is marriage equality important? Why do same-sex couples want to get married? Visit this page to find answers to these questions and more from leading BGLT organizations.

Special Report: The Same Sex Marriage Debate—The Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life released this report which gives an overview of the gay marriage debate in America, analyzes the constitutional dimensions of the debate and looks at public opinion trends on gay marriage and civil unions.

UUA Work—Learn more about Unitarian Universalists that are doing great marriage equality work. In national public witness, advocacy to Congress, and in organizing and advocacy at the state and local level, Unitarian Universalists make it clear that we stand on the side of love.
