Civil Liberties

Unitarian Universalists have a long tradition of being outspoken defenders of civil liberties in the United States. The Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) Washington Office joined in 2001 with other religious and secular groups to fight troublesome provisions of the USA PATRIOT Act. Since its passage, we have been working to educate people on its effects and to call on Congress to provide meaningful oversight.
