Taking It Home

Tell friends, family, colleagues and co-workers the story of the Martians zapping the subway car so that the passengers would be together forever.  Ask for their responses—how would it change the way they treated their fellow passengers? How would it affect their behavior if they thought of the whole world as being in this same subway car?

Reflect on “giving life the shape of justice,” a line from the song Spirit of Life by Carolyn McDade.  Include it in prayer, meditation, and journaling.  Do you see the spirit of life as moving the world towards justice? Do you see yourself as moving the world towards justice? How, or how not? How might you participate in giving life the shape of justice?

Spend a day, a week, a month thinking of strangers as neighbors.  Whenever you encounter a stranger, think to yourself “neighbor.” See how it affects your outlook and your actions. (A word of caution—neighbors, like strangers, can be dangerous! Be protective of your own safety as you seek to expand your circle of care and concern.)
