Tapestry of Faith Interfaith Youth Curriculum Call for Authors

The Lifespan Faith Development staff group of the UUA seeks an author for an

interfaith leadership program for high school-age youth. This curriculum is part of

a joint initiative of the UUA and the Interfaith Youth Core (www.ifyc.org).

This generation of young people is experiencing the greatest religious diversity of

any generation in the history of the world. Contact with this diversity can tend two

ways—toward conflict, or toward co-operation. Youth-led interfaith relationships

and service projects are powerful ways to tip the balance toward cooperation in

this century.

Unitarian Universalism has a unique role in building interfaith relationships,

particularly among young people. The foundational Principles of Unitarian

Universalism demand respect for the integrity of all persons, recognition of the

interdependence of diverse and disagreeing peoples, and support for the

exploration of multiple faiths.

Unitarian Universalists have a traditional place at the vanguard of interfaith work.

This curriculum will explore that tradition, as well as equip young people with the

tools to act and dialogue with people of different religious beliefs and practices.

Core program objectives are to strengthen participants’ Unitarian Universalist

identity and to develop their leadership skills. In addition to the typical

components of a Tapestry of Faith program, this curriculum will provide guidance

for organizing a culminating service event with people of other faith traditions in

users’ own community.

The author will partner with a co-author from the Interfaith Youth Core. Writing

will begin immediately upon hire, with a complete manuscript due in late spring

2010. The author will receive a Word-based template for program design and

manuscript preparation, and UUA staff will work closely with the author in

developing the curricula and suggesting resources.

Authors interested in applying should review the curricula published online and

other Tapestry of Faith resources at www.uua.org/tapestryoffaith.
