Synapse: A Point of Contact where Information & Energy are Exchanged
From 1982 until 2007, Synapse was the publication of Young Religious Unitarian Universalists (YRUU), the youth organization of the Unitarian Universalist Association.
For many years, it was published three times each year. After a series of budget cuts in 2005, this changed to two online issues, compiled into a single print issue.
Each issue contained articles, essays, poetry, and artwork by YRUUers across the continent. Also enclosed were updates and information about leadership and job opportunities, continental YRUU conferences, and what's was going on with the governance of YRUU.
In 2007, the Office of Youth Ministries explained their decision (PDF) to change the format of their publication in order to be more relevant to more people, and to better utilize staff resources. Today, the Office of Youth Ministries publishes a quarterly newsletter with updates on youth ministry. Alerts of new issues can be received by signing up for the YouthNews email list.
While we do not have permissions to post the Synapse archives online, old print copies of Synapse can be requested by emailing youth @ uua.org.
Additionally, we are excited to be able to present the full archive of People Soup. People Soup was the newsletter of Liberal Religious Youth (LRY), the youth organization which preceeded YRUU. This archive is available as PDF files only.
