A Child's Book of Blessings and Prayers

Eliza Blanchard

Illustrated by Rocco Baviera

At night, I open the window
and ask the moon to come
and press its face into mine.
Breathe into me.
—Rumi

Thank you for my friend next door;
And my friend across the street,
And please help me to be a friend
To each and every one I meet.
—Anonymous

Drawn from around the world, here are poems, graces, prayers and blessings to welcome the morning, share at bedtime, honor a birthday and express other celebrations and concerns of children. This diverse collection from Hindu, Sioux, Islamic, Jewish, Christian and Unitarian Universalist sources, to name only a few, highlights the common threads that can unite people of all faiths. Beautifully illustrated in full color. Ages 4 and up.

For Eliza Blanchard, volunteering as a religious education teacher led to a mid-life career change to become a Unitarian Universalist minister. Ordained in 2004, she is the minister of the Unitarian Universalist Society of Grafton and Upton, MA. A former English teacher, Blanchard resides in Westborough, MA, with her husband Ralph.
