UUA President Issues Statement on Maine Marriage Equality Defeat

November 4, 2009

Rev. Peter Morales, president of the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA), released the following statement today:

"I am deeply disappointed by yesterday’s vote by the people of Maine to withhold the right of equal marriage from same-sex couples. As is too often the case, fear and misinformation have stood in the way of justice.

"Unitarian Universalists and other people of faith across America remain firmly committed to equality, and we will not be deterred from working for a better future for same-sex couples and their families. Guided by our religious commitments to justice and compassion, supporters of marriage equality will continue to stand on the side of love."
