Tapestry of Faith Call for Authors: Multigenerational Jewish and Christian Scripture
Two New Tapestry of Faith Multigenerational Programs
The Lifespan Faith Development staff group of the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) seeks authors for two new programs:
- Wisdom from Hebrew Scripture
- Wisdom from Christian Scripture
Each eight-workshop program will engage Unitarian Universalists of all ages and life stages—children, youth and adults—with stories and themes drawn from our fourth Unitarian Universalist Source. Following the Tapestry of Faith model, workshops will use conversation and activities geared to a range of learning styles to broaden and deepen participants’ knowledge of scripture and their understanding of its historical and theological contexts. Participants will discover meaning and wisdom from our Jewish and Christian faith heritage to use in their own lives.
Goals for the Curricula
- Provide multimodal, multigenerational experiences that are welcoming and challenging to all
- Offer resources and activities for Unitarian Universalists to access beauty, wisdom and meaning from the Hebrew and Christian scripture
- Acquaint participants with the cultural and religious importance of stories and texts from Hebrew and Christian scripture, particularly those which are important to our Universalist, Unitarian and Unitarian Universalist heritage
- Give participants a lifelong approach to exploring the historical and socio-political context of scriptural narratives
- Offer an opportunity for re-examination of literal interpretations of Hebrew and Christian scripture, including those texts which are cited to support particular social and religious points of view
- Build community among participants across the lifespan.
Authors will receive a Word-based template for program design and manuscript preparation. UUA staff work closely with authors in developing curricula and will suggest resources.
Authors interested in applying should visit the Tapestry of Faith website and review programs currently online and other resources.
