Call for Authors: Tapestry of Faith Curriculum for Adults
The Lifespan Faith Development staff group of the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) is seeking authors for a new, six-workshop program, New UU.
This program will introduce adults to Unitarian Universalism (UUism) and invite participation and membership in the local congregation. Following the Tapestry of Faith model, workshops will include stories, conversation and activities to deepen participants’ understanding of our faith traditions and practices.
Goals for the curriculum:
- Provide a warm, hospitable and accessible welcome to a congregation’s newcomers
- Acquaint participants with the congregation: its mission, vision, practices, programs and governance
- Introduce participants to the history, values, beliefs and practices of Unitarian Universalism
- Introduce participants to a Unitarian Universalist philosophy of religious education
- Build community among participants and connect them with the congregation
- Invite participants to become members and share in the stewardship of the congregation
- Familiarize participants with the interconnections and opportunities provided by the larger Unitarian Universalist movement, including the Unitarian Universalist Association of Congregations.
Writing is paid and will begin in June 2009, with full manuscripts due September 1, 2009. Author(s) will receive a Word-based template for program design and manuscript preparation. UUA staff work closely with authors in developing curricula and suggesting resources.
Author Criteria
- Proven writing skills, preferably in curriculum writing
- Competence in developmental age-appropriateness
- Ability to communicate UU faith and values
- Use of anti-racist, anti-oppressive lens
- Ability to meet deadlines
- Ability to accept and respond to feedback
