Tapestry of Faith Call for Fieldtesters: 6th Grade, Riddle and Mystery

Unitarian Universalist Association Call for Fieldtest Congregations

Riddle and Mystery: Unitarian Universalist (UU) Responses to Big Questions

A Tapestry of Faith Children’s Program for Sixth Grade—Fall 2009

  •  “Is there a God”?
  •  “What happens after you die?”
  •  “Does my life have a purpose?”

These are big questions we all voice. While Unitarian Universalists espouse different theologies, we agree on many of the answers. With our answers, a faith is created.

The Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) is pleased to present Riddle and Mystery: UU Responses to Big Questions, a Tapestry of Faith program for sixth grade. This exciting curriculum, written by Richard S. Kimball, helps young people experience how our individual search for meaning in the universe is supported and strengthened when we come together as people of faith. Participants explore our shared UU beliefs and where their own beliefs fit in the spectrum. Engaging, relevant activities range from the introspective (WIT Time or, “What I Think” Time) to performing scripted dramas, exploring UU hymns for answers, and conducting Internet surveys.

We seek congregations diverse in size, location and culture to test Riddle and Mystery in the fall of 2009. This program offers:

  • 16 sessions to complete in the fall of 2009
  • Informative introductory material to prepare teachers to lead effectively
  • Goals and learning objectives for each session
  • Core stories that teach UU values, Principles and religious concepts
  • Engaging activities based on a variety of learning styles
  • Session activity choices to help you tailor the session to your needs
  • Parent resources and Taking It Home activities for families
  • Faith in Action activities to engage the group in living our faith within or outside the congregation
  • Online format that is free, searchable and adaptable.
