Short Term Ministry Near Lake Chapala, Mexico

The Lake Chapala Unitarian Universalist Fellowship (LCUUF) is interested in hosting a visiting Unitarian Universalist (UU) Minister for two weeks in 2012. The timing of visits is flexible, wish a slight preference for the winter months (January - April).

The LCUUF is situated in the beautiful Lake Chapala area within an hour's drive of Guadalajara, Mexico's second largest city. Renowned for its good weather and friendly people, the area has attracted thousands of American and Canadian retirees, who live in several small villages along the north side of the large inland lake. The Lakeside area is a haven for artists and writers and has an active theater and musical community. The Lake Chapala Society campus hosts numerous activities and houses English book and video libraries.

The LCUU Fellowship has been in existence since March, 2006 and has held lay led services every Sunday since its formation. It currently meets in the local synagogue. With a membership of 68, it is governed by an elected Board and has several active standing committees: Finance, Sunday Service, Care, Program, Membership and Outreach. Completely volunteer run, the Fellowship employs no staff. LCUUF has Mexican not-profit legal status and is a member of the Church of the Larger Fellowship.

The visiting minister would be expected to speak at two Sunday Services, provide consultative services to the board and committees, and facilitate lay leader training. In addition to an honorarium of 10,000 pesos (approximately $700 U.S.) the Fellowship would provide local transportation, some meals, and if desired, accommodation in members' homes.

If interested in the position, please e-mail a brief statement of your interests and expertise, as well as a resume of your education and experience to the echerry @ uua.org. Please provide at least six weeks between sending in an application and the envisioned beginning of this short-term ministry.
