The Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) Legacy Society was founded in 1988 to honor Elizabeth and Elmo Robinson and others like them who have arranged a gift to the Unitarian Universalist Association in their estate plans or who have made a life income gift. Today, more than 400 generous Unitarian Universalists (UUs) have joined the Legacy Society, representing more than $18 million dollars in bequest intentions for the future of our liberal religion.
Vision and Commitment
Elizabeth and Elmo Robinson were Unitariarian Universalists deeply committed to their faith. Both wanted to ensure that this religious movement remained vibrant for future generations, and a gift to the UUA from their estates has helped secure that dream. We honor the Robinsons not for the amount of their bequest, but because their lives—their forward-looking generosity—are an inspiring example of "faith in action."
During their lifetimes, Elmo and Elizabeth gave of their energy and their talents to our movement, Elmo as a minister and scholar, and Elizabeth as a peace activist and influential member of the Unitarian Historical Society. Theirs was a shared ministry—Elmo was called as a minister to nine Unitarian Universalist congregations, and at his retirement in Los Alamos, NM, UUs named both Elizabeth and Elmo Robinson Emeritus Ministers, in recognition of all that they had given, together, to that community.
The Legacy Society continues to recognize generous people like the Robinsons who are inspired to leave a lasting legacy to the religious movement that means so much to us all.
