UU Fellowship of Northern Westchester

January 29, 2008

On Sunday, December 23, the oldest member (about 90 years old) of the Unitarian Universalist (UU) Fellowship of Northern Westchester in Mt. Kisco, New York, carried the Time “Person of the Year” issue with him as he rose to light a candle during the Joys and Concerns portion of the service. He turned to the Unitarian Universalist Association's (UUA’s) ad, and with tears in his eyes, said that seeing it brought him incredible joy, that he could not recall having ever seen an ad for Unitarian Universalism before, and that it was “about time” that he did.

He also said that he had long believed that there are a lot of people out there who need what Unitarian Universalism has to offer, and mentioned how grateful he was for President Sinkford’s leadership that has brought us to this work.

The Rev. Michael Tino reports that the Fellowship has welcomed steady streams of new visitors since September 2007 who cite the Time ad as their reason for coming. The Fellowship also recently (thanks to the Metro New York District staff coordinating an order for them) began giving Voices of a Liberal Faith DVDs  to visitors; they gave out 8 of them on a single Sunday, which for a Fellowship now up to 120 members is exceptional.

As a result of the Fellowship's renewed energy, the congregation decided to share this gift with you, and our whole family of congregations, by splitting their entire collection for the month of January with the Association Sunday portion of the Now is the Time Campaign.
