Dear Friends,

In this season of hope and thanksgiving, I want to express my deep appreciation for all that you do to keep Unitarian Universalism growing ever stronger—especially at times when giving generously both of your time and treasure isn’t always easy.

Below, I share with you four gifts for which we are especially grateful.

1. Susan Ford's Race for Knoxville and Your Supporting Contributions

In September of this year, we announced that Susan Ford of Cookeville, Tennessee would be participating in the Ironman Florida Triathlon. And on November 1st, she did. While Susan has a passion for triathlon racing for its own sake—for the special physical and mental challenges it poses—this year she raced for something greater than herself. Susan registered her participation with the Janus Charity Challenge and pledged to raise funds in support of the UUA-Thomas Jefferson District Knoxville Relief Fund.

Susan raised at total of $3410.66 to support those affected by the tragedy in Knoxville, Tennessee as they continue to heal.

Thank you for your gifts to the Knoxville Relief Fund.

2. Your Gifts to Friends of the UUA

Every gift to the Friends of the UUA—no matter its size—makes a difference to the health and vitality of your Association of Congregations. Already this fiscal year, as of December 2, 2008, 4,585 Unitarian Universalists like you have contributed nearly $400,000 to help the Association continue building the world we dream about.

This month, the Friends of the UUA will mail a letter from President Sinkford on Peacemaking, as we work together ever harder to reach the goal of our Sixth Principle—the goal of world community with peace, liberty, and justice for all.

Thank you for your gifts to the Friends of the UUA.

3. Your Participation in Association Sunday

As of today, December 2, 2008, you’ve raised over $275,000 to support initiatives to help our whole family of congregations Grow in Spirit. Read about the projects your gifts will support.

And stay posted for an Association Sunday survey next week! We need your ideas and feedback about this year’s service to help frame Association Sunday 2009.

In the meantime, if you have experiences you’d like to share, suggestions, or questions about where to send your congregation’s gifts, email us at associationsunday @ uua.org?subject=association%20sunday.

Thank you for your gifts to Association Sunday.

4. Your Support of the Now is the Time Campaign

Your gifts to the Now is the Time Campaign fund the work of: UU national marketing, diversifying our ministry, fighting for marriage equality, and making our congregations as welcoming as they can be, among so many other programs.

As of December 2, 2008, the Campaign has reached 91% of its $50 million goal, including $18.0 million in cash and pledges and $27.7 million in legacy commitments.

Thank you for your unending generosity year in and year out.

In faith,

Rev. Terry Sweetser
Vice President for Stewardship and Development
