African Partnerships Project
The Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) is embarking on a series of programs to strengthen relationships between Unitarian Universalists in the United States with indigenous Unitarian and Unitarian Universalist groups in Africa. We are seeking to raise $100,000 to enable the UUA International Office to:
- Cultivate Right Relationship with Unitarian and Unitarian Universalist (UU) congregations in Africa.
- Support Unitarian Universalist organizations, like the UU Partner Church Council, that are directly involved in building congregation-to-congregation partnerships.
- Support Unitarian Universalist organizations that are engaged in important social justice work with Unitarian and Unitarian Universalist partners in Africa.
- Support organizations, like the International Council of Unitarians and Universalists, that promote Unitarian Universalism as an active, positive religious presence in the world.
Mindful of both the world’s brokenness and the potential for reconciliation, the Unitarian Universalist Association has a long history of commitment to energizing Unitarian Universalist congregations by facilitating their engagement in transformative international partnerships.
Guided by this vision, former President William G. Sinkford led a Unitarian Universalist pilgrimage to Africa in November 2008. There, the group visited with the Unitarian Universalists of Kenya, Uganda, Nigeria and South Africa, and learned from leaders in the Truth and Reconciliation work in South Africa as well as our social justice partners involved in BGLT rights, HIV/AIDS, slavery, women’s rights and anti-privatization struggles.
