Public Witness at General Assembly

The 2009 Public Witness event will be announced here when selected.

In 2008, Unitarian Universalist Association President William Sinkford, interfaith leaders, and others gathered in Fort Lauderdale for a celebration of and advocacy with Bisexual, Gay, Lesbian and Transgender (BGLT) and immigrant families. As a welcoming association, Unitarian Universalists value all individuals and their families. Yet many BGLT and immigrant families face barriers to keeping their families together. Florida is the last state remaining to have a complete ban on gay adoption, and a state ballot initiative to outlaw same sex marriage will be coming up in the November elections. Unjust immigration laws have separated many immigrant families—deporting parents of citizen children. As we gathered in Florida, we witnessed in the public square for family values that value all families and stand firmly on the side of love.
