...want to schedule a Social Justice Empowerment Workshop with the Unitarian Universalist Association's (UUA's) Office of Multicultural Growth & Witness.

We have discussed this possibility with the members of the governing board of our congregation, the leaders of the congregation's social justice programs, and the minister(s). We agree to:

  1. Fill out the Congregational Social Justice Assessment Form.
  2. Publicize the event starting at least 90 days before the date.
  3. Recruit participants and ensure that at least 20% of our average Sunday worship service attendees register for the workshop.
  4. Ensure that the minister(s) is willing to attend and participate.
  5. Ensure that at least one half of the members of the Board will attend.
  6. Ask the director of religious education to attend.
  7. Ask members of the social action committee to attend.
  8. Be sure to invite youth, young adults, and elders.
  9. Pay attention to bringing a diversity of participants.
  10. Provide childcare.
  11. Do an evaluation after the training event is over.
  12. Participate in a “Next Steps” follow-up teleconference.

Congregations are expected to pay a fee based on the size of the congregation:

  • Up to 150 members: $750 + expenses
  • Up to 550 members: $950 + expenses
  • Over 550 members: $1,100 + expenses

Additional expenses may include the costs of travel and lodging for the trainer(s), printing the handbooks, meals and snacks, materials, and childcare. The handbook is available online and can be easily downloaded and or sent to a local printer for printing and binding.

Cluster workshops are now available and may held for teams from congregations. Cluster workshops focus on skill building for leaders and offer best practices that teams can take back to their congregations and implement. A cluster workshop costs approximately $1,800 + expenses, and discounts are available for congregations that organize the workshop.

We are interested in the following type of workshop (check all that apply):
