Manav Vikas Mandal (MVM)

Manav Vikas Mandal (MVM) was established in 1988 by a group of youth with the vision of building "a society where the vulnerable sections of society like the Dalits, women and children have just and equitable opportunities to develop themselves". MVM works in 160 villages of Osmanabad, one the most neglected districts of Maharashtra. The main approach of MVM is:

  • Mobilizing marginal farmers and landless laborers to form a trade union,
  • Building their capacities and motivating them to fight for the livelihood issues that affect them, and
  • Building a sustainable and transparent model of the process of empowerment.

MVM's goals:

  • Formation of a trade union of 48,000 agricultural laborers,
  • Increase in the annual income of members by approximately 20% through reduction in exploitation and increased opportunities for employment,
  • Increased participation of women in decision making in the trade unions,
  • Reduction in levels of absolute poverty,
  • Reduction in migration.
