UUA.org Identity

UUA.org has become one of the most visible and important ways in which the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) communicates with its constituents. Individually and collectively, the pages within UUA.org create an impression about the UUA and Unitarian Universalism: who we are, what we do, and the impact we have through programs, resources, outreach, advocacy, and witness. Our identity and the services we provide distinguish all UUA materials with a mark of quality and integrity and offer a visual representation of a modern and dynamic faith.

When the UUA's Web Redesign Task Group conducted a user survey of visitors' experiences with UUA.org, navigation and usability were the biggest concerns identified. It was clear that the new UUA.org had to meet the highest standards in terms of content, ease of use, and accessibility. There are great benefits to adopting uniform standards:

  • A stronger and more coherent web presence
  • Improved usability
  • Enhanced institutional branding
  • Improved conformance to international standards for accessibility
  • More efficient design, development, and maintenance
  • Improved portability to new standards and technologies

Standardization simplifies the user experience. Users are not required to learn a new navigation scheme or labeling system every time they visit a new area within UUA.org.

Standardization also helps those who design, develop, and maintain sites. With adoption of carefully selected standards for layout, design elements, and navigation comes the freedom to focus on the quality of the content. The use of common tools and techniques saves time and money too, allowing us to reinvest resources in other vital areas of our website.
